Ian On Getting In Shape For His 50th Birthday

As his 50th birthday approached, Iain decided he wanted to transform his body.

He felt he had lost his way and knew he had to make positive lifestyle changes, to improve how he look and felt.

Working alongside Ollie, Iain was given tailored nutrition advice and a training program that took into consideration past injuries & training experience.

The result is an impressive 15kg weight loss over 26 weeks.

Is there an option to score 6 stars? TLDR: Team are awesome, highly supportive, very knowledgable and I would not have met my goals without signing up. Don't hesitate (try the trial at least!). Sign up before they cannot fit anyone else in as I can see it getting busier!

Iain about his personal training at The Cut

“I wanted to lose weight, gain some strength, conditioning and a better body shape as was reaching 50th birthday this year. I had already signed up to a mainstream gym that was literally one floor below my office but still could not get the motivation, consistency and discipline to turn up and push myself.

I was not impressed with the mainstream gym personal trainers, having observed quite a few of them scrolling on their phones and absent mindedly counting to 10 whilst their clients pushed/pulled/lifted something.

I hesitated signing up for a while, for what now feels like stupid reasons (such as cost; feeling a little intimidated by all the ripped people; or do I actually need to be fitter/lose more weight before I start? or can I fit this into my schedule), but signed up for their trial, and having loved it, rolled straight into a 12week programme.

Your trainer will take the time to understand your goals, set a calories/macros programme and customise your training to help you achieve them. No judging goes on here, but to get the best out of this you need to lean in, confront your brutal truth (for me it was that I had more weight to lose than I thought!). This includes having a few measurements and photos taken – but these end up being powerful motivators when you see your progress!

Also, follow their guidance both out and inside the gym – being honest about when you fail/go off the rails is encouraged, but without judgement they will coach you back on track. The great news here is that you can outsource your motivation, and just need to turn up for each session. They will help with the rest of it. They become honest accountability partners, holding you to the goals you want to achieve. Consistency over time will be a key to successfully reaching your goals.

I have worked with Ollie as my trainer who has highly credible expertise and experience in strength and conditioning. Ollie’s focus on form and somehow knowing when I can push/pull/lift that little bit more than I think I can, gets the optimal results of each exercise/set; whilst ensuring that I avoid any strains/injuries (I have lower back issues occasionally).

I cannot recommend The Cut enough, signing up was the best thing I have done in years and wish I did it years ago, the best birthday present I could give myself.”
